Icon Medicine Family Practice
  • What is virtual primary care?

Think of it as a virtual doctor’s visit. ICON Medicine offers personalized primary care that you can access from anywhere, whether you’re on the move, at work, or simply relaxing at home. As a member, you’ll have a dedicated care team that will become familiar with your needs over time. They’ll assist you in managing chronic conditions, planning preventive care, and guiding you toward in-person treatment when necessary.

  • Are there membership fees or extra costs?

There are no membership fees, and our services are transparent, with no hidden expenses for Iconic members.

  • Do you accept Medicare and Medicaid?

Currently, we are not equipped to accept Medicare or Medicaid, but we are actively working on making this possible in the near future.

  • Does ICON Medicine accept my insurance?

We presently welcome new members with coverage from most plans offered by Aetna, Anthem, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and UnitedHealthcare, and we are in the process of expanding our accepted plans.

  • What is the cost of availing of ICON Medicine services?

For video visits, you will pay your regular copay (please refer to your health plan for details). In addition, website chat, personalized care plans, prescription refill requests, and other care team support are all included at no extra charge.

  • What happens if I’m an ICON patient and I “age in” to Medicare?

If you’re an existing patient who “ages in” to Medicare, we’ll accept your new coverage while continuing to provide you excellent, uninterrupted care.

How It Works

  • Can I keep my existing Primary Care Provider (PCP) if I enroll with Icon Medicine?

When you join ICON as a member, an ICON Medicine Nurse Practitioner (NP) will become your new primary care provider (PCP). We’re happy to collaborate with your current PCP to facilitate the transfer of your medical records, ensuring a seamless continuation of your care.

  • What should I do during an emergency?

We aim to be your initial point of contact for urgent situations. In the case of a non-life-threatening emergency, your ICON Medicine care team will provide guidance on the appropriate course of action. You can reach out to us on weekdays between 7 AM and 7 PM, and you can expect a response within 30 minutes. After hours, you can contact us through the website, and we will call you back within an hour. For life-threatening emergencies, please dial 911.

  • What if I require an in-person appointment?

Although your ICON Medicine team primarily conducts virtual visits, we will direct you to in-person care when necessary. If you need diagnostic tests or procedures, we have a well-established network of trusted partners in the communities we serve. For more complex health issues, we collaborate with top specialists. Regardless of the situation, we remain accessible to you, providing on-demand video and chat support for illnesses, questions, or urgent health matters. We also have plans to open physical locations in the near future for continuous care.

  • What medical needs can ICON Medicine address?

Your ICON Medicine care team can manage a wide range of health concerns virtually, including:

    • Chronic conditions: Our advanced approaches are effective in managing conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure.
    • Acute concerns: We’re here to help with common ailments such as back pain, stomach flu, headaches, sinus infections, and more.
    • Health coaching: We support your long-term health goals, whether it’s weight loss, smoking cessation, or improved sleep.
    • Women’s health: From birth control counseling to addressing menstrual cycle concerns, we provide comprehensive women’s health services.
    • Behavioral health (coming soon): ICON Medicine members will have the option to work with licensed behavioral health specialists for assessment, support, and ongoing progress monitoring.
  • Can ICON Medicine prescribe opioids and other controlled substances?

Prescription of controlled substances depends on the state’s regulations. In some states, controlled substances can be prescribed only after an in-person visit, which we can’t provide as a virtual service. However, we will work closely with you to ensure you receive appropriate care. In states where we can prescribe these medications, we follow a thorough process to understand your medical needs through multiple video visits. Once we have a clear picture, we discuss treatment options, including safer alternatives. Learn more about our approach to working with controlled substances.

What to Expect

  • Do I need a smartphone or a computer with a camera to utilize ICON Medicine?

To ensure the highest quality care, you will need a video-capable iOS or Android device, laptop, or desktop computer.

  • How can I arrange an appointment?

Booking same- or next-day appointments is hassle-free through the ICON Medicine website. Plus, if you have any questions along the way, your care team is here to assist. You can reach out to them day or night at no cost to you.

  • What if I decide ICON Medicine Health doesn’t suit my needs?

If you give ICON Medicine a try and decide it’s not the right fit for you, no worries. You have the flexibility to switch to a different primary care provider at any time. Just let us know so that we can assist in transferring your records to your new PCP. There are no cancellation fees or hard feelings.

  • Will ICON Medicine disclose my information to third parties?

Protecting your privacy is our foremost concern. ICON Medicine will not share your data with external parties without your explicit consent. If data sharing is necessary to deliver the best care, we will always seek your permission before proceeding. For additional details, please refer to our privacy policy linked below.

  • What is the role of a Nurse Practitioner (NP) at ICON Medicine?

Typically, a Nurse Practitioner serves as the central figure on your ICON Medicine care team. They are readily available to address your inquiries and provide continuous support for your regular healthcare needs. NPs, with their advanced training at the master’s level, are proficient in diagnosing and prescribing medications. Whether it’s conducting routine physical examinations, diagnosing and treating acute conditions, managing chronic illnesses, or offering guidance on preventive healthcare, you can trust your NP to deliver top-notch, personalized care. In fact, numerous scientific studies have demonstrated that NPs provide primary care that is on par with physician care.

  • Will I always communicate with my designated Primary Care Provider (PCM) team?

In most instances, yes, but there may be exceptions. In our efforts to offer prompt and convenient care, you might occasionally interact with a healthcare provider who is not part of your designated care team. This can occur when you require after-hours care or assistance with common issues like sinus or urinary tract infections.
