Anxiety, depression, PTSD, and medication management from the comfort of home. Board-certified providers, same-day appointments. MD, VA & FL.
Icon Medicine provides comprehensive outpatient psychiatric care focused on accurate diagnosis, evidence-based medication management, and a whole-person approach to mental wellness. Our board-certified providers specialize in the conditions most commonly affecting adults today — often under-diagnosed and under-treated.
We understand that seeking mental health care takes courage. Our providers create a safe, judgment-free environment where your concerns are taken seriously and treatment is personalized to your life.
Generalized anxiety, panic disorder, social anxiety, and phobias — diagnosed and managed with evidence-based medication protocols.
Major depressive disorder, persistent depressive disorder (dysthymia), and treatment-resistant depression with individualized pharmacotherapy.
Post-traumatic stress disorder management with medication and coordination with trauma-informed therapists for comprehensive care.
Adult ADHD evaluation, stimulant and non-stimulant medication management, and functional support for focus, organization, and executive function.
Bipolar disorder, cyclothymia, and mood dysregulation — careful medication management with regular follow-up to maintain stability.
Mental health conditions affect people differently. Here are some of the most common experiences that bring patients to Icon Medicine — you don't have to have a diagnosis to seek help.
Feeling sad, empty, or hopeless for weeks or months. Loss of interest in activities you used to enjoy. Difficulty getting through the day.
Inability to stop worrying, racing thoughts, muscle tension, or panic attacks that interfere with your work, relationships, or daily routines.
Flashbacks, nightmares, hypervigilance, or emotional numbness following a traumatic event. Avoidance of reminders that disrupt your life.
Currently on psychiatric medication that isn't working well, causing side effects, or prescribed by a provider who is no longer available to manage it.
Struggling to maintain work performance, relationships, or self-care. Mental health symptoms are affecting your quality of life in noticeable ways.
Dealing with both a mental health condition and another issue like chronic pain, substance use, or a medical illness — integrated care makes a difference.
We take a structured, evidence-based approach to mental health care — beginning with a thorough evaluation and progressing to stable, long-term wellness.
Your first appointment is a thorough evaluation of your mental health history, symptoms, prior treatments, family history, and current life circumstances. We use validated screening tools (PHQ-9, GAD-7, PCL-5, AUDIT) to establish a clinical baseline. This is not a rushed 10-minute intake — we take the time to understand you fully.
Following your evaluation, your provider will discuss a diagnosis (or differential diagnoses) and a personalized treatment plan. This includes medication options with their benefits, risks, and alternatives — fully explained. You'll have the opportunity to ask questions and be involved in every decision about your care.
If medication is appropriate, prescriptions are sent to your pharmacy the same day. We schedule a follow-up within 2–4 weeks to check tolerability, early response, and any concerns. Starting a new psychiatric medication requires attentive monitoring, and we're available between visits if you have questions.
Most psychiatric medications take 4–8 weeks to show full effect. During this phase, we adjust dosing based on your response and any side effects, and may add or switch medications if needed. We track symptom scores at each visit to measure objective improvement.
Once stabilized, we move to regular maintenance visits (typically every 1–3 months) to monitor for symptom recurrence, manage refills, and address life changes that affect mental health. We support medication discontinuation safely when the time is right, with gradual tapering and close monitoring.

Board-certified providers · Licensed in MD, VA & FL · HIPAA-compliant telehealth
Everything you need to know before your first mental health appointment at Icon Medicine.
Maryland: Both telehealth and in-person visits available at 7411 Riggs Rd, Suite 300B, Hyattsville, MD 20783.
Virginia & Florida: Telehealth only. All appointments via secure video — you never need to leave your home. Research shows telehealth mental health care is equally effective for most conditions.
Icon Medicine providers are prescribers — we diagnose, prescribe, and manage medications. We do not provide weekly talk therapy or CBT sessions.
We strongly support therapy as a complement to medication. We'll coordinate care with your therapist and can provide referrals to licensed mental health therapists in your area or via telehealth.
Most people wait 25 days or more to see a psychiatrist. We've eliminated that wait. Here's what makes Icon Medicine different.
The national average wait to see a psychiatrist is 25 days. We offer same-day and next-day appointments. When you need help, you shouldn't have to wait weeks.
You see the same provider at every appointment. No being handed off to a new face every few months. Your provider knows your history, your life, and your treatment goals.
We treat mental illness like any other medical condition — because it is. Our providers approach every patient with empathy, dignity, and clinical expertise. No shame, no lectures.
Mental health doesn't exist in isolation. We consider your physical health, sleep, nutrition, substance use, and social circumstances — addressing the full picture.
We collaborate with therapists and counselors in your area or via telehealth. Medication plus therapy produces the best outcomes — we help you build that team.
We accept most major insurance plans and bill them first. No surprise cash-pay invoices after your appointment. We verify your benefits before you come in.

Answers to the most common questions about our mental health services. Still have questions? Call us at (240) 966-4266.
Yes. Icon Medicine providers can diagnose and prescribe psychiatric medications — including antidepressants, anti-anxiety medications, mood stabilizers, and stimulants for ADHD — via telehealth. Prescriptions are sent electronically to your pharmacy after your appointment. Note: certain controlled substances have specific prescribing requirements that your provider will explain if relevant to your treatment.
No. Medication management does not require concurrent therapy. Many patients come to Icon Medicine specifically for psychiatric medication oversight without being in therapy. That said, for many conditions (particularly depression, anxiety, and PTSD), combining medication with therapy produces the best outcomes. We'll discuss what's right for your situation and can provide therapist referrals if you're interested.
Your mental health records are protected by HIPAA federal law. We will never share your information with your employer, family members, or anyone else without your explicit written consent. The only exceptions are narrow, legally-defined situations such as an imminent safety threat. Our telehealth platform is HIPAA-compliant and encrypted.
We frequently take over management of patients who are already on psychiatric medications. Please bring a complete list of current medications and doses to your first appointment. We'll review your current regimen, assess how well it's working, and continue, adjust, or transition your treatment as appropriate. We do not abruptly stop medications without a clinical reason.
Yes. Under the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act, most insurance plans must cover mental health services at the same level as physical health services. Telehealth coverage has expanded significantly since 2020 and is now standard with most major insurers. We accept Medicare, Medicaid, BCBS, Aetna, United Healthcare, Cigna, and Carefirst. Call us at (240) 966-4266 and we'll verify your benefits before your first appointment.
For mental health crises, call or text 988 (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline) or go to your nearest emergency room. For non-emergency concerns — side effects, questions about medication, or worsening symptoms — contact our office at (240) 966-4266 or send a message through your patient portal. We make every effort to respond within one business day and can schedule urgent follow-up appointments for established patients.

Real experiences from Icon Medicine patients. Their words, not ours.
I'd been on the same antidepressant for years with no real follow-up. My new provider at Icon Medicine actually reviewed everything, adjusted my medication, and for the first time I feel like someone is actually managing my mental health.
Angela S.
Maryland patient · Depression Management
Getting anxiety medication via telehealth felt too easy — I was skeptical. But the evaluation was thorough, the follow-up is consistent, and I haven't had a panic attack in four months.
Michael O.
Virginia patient · Anxiety Disorder
I was worried about the stigma of going to a psychiatrist's office. With telehealth I just join a video call from my car or my bedroom. It's made consistent care actually possible for the first time.
Priya N.
Florida patient · PTSD + Anxiety
