Same-day treatment for opioid use disorder (buprenorphine/Suboxone) and alcohol use disorder (naltrexone/Vivitrol) via telehealth — no judgment, no waiting list, no office visit required. Licensed providers in Maryland, Virginia, and Florida.
Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) combines FDA-approved medications with counseling and behavioral support to treat substance use disorders — including opioid use disorder (OUD) and alcohol use disorder (AUD). It is the gold standard of care recommended by the CDC, SAMHSA, and the American Society of Addiction Medicine.
For opioid use disorder: Buprenorphine (Suboxone) partially activates opioid receptors to reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings without producing a high. Most patients can start the same day as their first visit.
For alcohol use disorder: Naltrexone (oral or monthly Vivitrol injection) blocks the brain's reward response to alcohol, dramatically reducing cravings and the urge to drink. It works whether patients want to cut back or stop entirely — no opioid history required.
Both OUD and AUD are brain diseases — not moral failings. MAT is evidence-based medicine that reduces overdose deaths, hospitalizations, and relapse rates. It works.
You may be a candidate for MAT if you're experiencing any of the following — whether related to opioids or alcohol. No prior treatment history required — we meet patients where they are.
Using prescription opioids (Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, Fentanyl) or heroin and experiencing cravings, withdrawal symptoms, or loss of control over use.
Drinking more than intended, feeling unable to cut back, experiencing cravings, or continuing to drink despite negative consequences. Naltrexone and Vivitrol are FDA-approved medications that significantly reduce the urge to drink.
Recently completed inpatient detox and want medication support to maintain recovery. Also if you've relapsed after prior treatment and are ready to try a medication-supported approach.
Want treatment without visiting a clinic or pharmacy in person. Our 100% telehealth model means you can start Suboxone from home, with prescriptions sent to your local pharmacy.
Live far from a MAT clinic, lack transportation, or have a schedule that makes regular office visits impossible. Telehealth removes these barriers entirely.
Experiencing withdrawal symptoms — sweating, nausea, muscle aches, anxiety, insomnia. We can often start buprenorphine the same day to quickly relieve symptoms.
Ready to make a change and commit to treatment. MAT is most effective when combined with behavioral support — we help connect you with counselors and support groups.
We've streamlined addiction treatment to eliminate the bureaucratic barriers that prevent people from getting help. Here's exactly what happens when you come to us.
Schedule online or call us at (240) 966-4266. We offer same-day video appointments. No referral required. All you need is a phone or computer. Your visit is 100% private and HIPAA-compliant.
Your provider reviews your substance use history, current medications, and medical history. For OUD patients, we use the COWS (Clinical Opiate Withdrawal Scale) to assess readiness for buprenorphine. For AUD patients, we assess drinking history, frequency, and any withdrawal symptoms to determine the right medication (oral naltrexone or monthly Vivitrol injection).
If you're in mild-to-moderate withdrawal, we can prescribe buprenorphine/naloxone (Suboxone) the same day. The prescription is sent electronically to your chosen pharmacy. Most pharmacies fill it within a few hours.
We schedule close follow-up appointments during the first 2 weeks to make sure your dose is right. Most patients stabilize quickly — cravings reduce, withdrawal resolves, and you start feeling normal again.
Monthly telehealth check-ins to monitor progress, adjust dosing as needed, and address any co-occurring mental health needs. We don't rush you off medication — evidence shows longer treatment duration leads to better outcomes.
When you and your provider agree the time is right, we create a personalized tapering plan. There's no arbitrary deadline. We support you at every step — including connecting you with therapists, peer support specialists, and community resources.

Answers to what we hear most often about MAT. Don't see yours? Call us at (240) 966-4266.
Yes, in most cases. If you're in mild-to-moderate opioid withdrawal (typically 8–12 hours since your last use of short-acting opioids, or 24–48 hours for long-acting opioids like methadone), we can prescribe buprenorphine during your first telehealth visit. The prescription is sent electronically to your pharmacy immediately after the appointment.
No. This is a common myth. Buprenorphine is a medication that stabilizes brain chemistry, just like blood pressure medication or insulin stabilizes physical conditions. It treats opioid use disorder medically. Studies consistently show MAT patients have dramatically better outcomes — including lower overdose death rates, better mental health, and improved quality of life — compared to those who attempt abstinence without medication support.
Most major insurance plans cover MAT treatment, including Medicaid and Medicare. Since the passage of the Mental Health Parity Act, substance use disorder treatment must be covered at the same level as other medical conditions. We accept most major insurance and will verify your coverage before your appointment. Self-pay options are also available.
There's no one-size-fits-all answer. SAMHSA guidelines recommend treating OUD like a chronic disease — many patients benefit from long-term maintenance (years), while others may stabilize and taper after 12–24 months. We never rush tapering. Your provider will work with you to make the decision based on your recovery goals and medical history.
Yes. We provide telehealth MAT to patients in Virginia and Florida. Our providers are licensed in both states to prescribe buprenorphine via telemedicine. You never need to visit our Maryland office. Your prescription will be sent to a pharmacy in your home state.
Co-occurring mental health conditions are very common in OUD patients. As a full-service family practice, we can address anxiety, depression, PTSD, and other conditions alongside your MAT. We also provide referrals to therapists and counselors who specialize in addiction recovery when appropriate.
Absolutely. Your medical records are protected by HIPAA and, for substance use disorder specifically, by 42 CFR Part 2 — a federal regulation that provides even stronger privacy protections than standard HIPAA. We will never disclose your treatment to your employer, family, or anyone else without your explicit written consent.
Yes. MAT is highly effective for alcohol use disorder (AUD), not just opioid addiction. FDA-approved medications like naltrexone work by blocking the brain's reward response to alcohol, which dramatically reduces cravings and the pleasure of drinking. Studies show naltrexone reduces heavy drinking days by up to 25% and significantly increases abstinence rates. It can be taken as a daily oral pill or as a monthly Vivitrol injection (no daily pill to remember). Icon Medicine treats both OUD and AUD — you do not need a history of opioid use to qualify for our MAT program.
Icon Medicine uses FDA-approved medications for AUD:
Naltrexone (oral, daily) — Blocks opioid receptors in the brain, removing the pleasurable "buzz" from alcohol and reducing cravings. Most commonly prescribed, can be started immediately.
Vivitrol (naltrexone injection, monthly) — Same mechanism as oral naltrexone but given as a once-monthly shot. Eliminates the need to remember a daily pill and helps with adherence.
Both medications are non-addictive, do not cause sedation, and can be prescribed via telehealth. Your provider will recommend the best option based on your drinking history and preferences.
These criteria apply to both opioid use disorder and alcohol use disorder. If several apply, you're likely a strong candidate. A brief consultation will confirm eligibility — no obligation.
You're using opioids (prescription or heroin) more than intended and feel unable to stop
You experience withdrawal symptoms — sweating, nausea, muscle aches — when you stop or reduce use
You've tried to quit opioids on your own but relapsed, or you've been through detox and want medication support to stay sober
Privacy matters to you — you want to avoid clinic waiting rooms or local pharmacies seeing your prescriptions
You live in a rural area or lack transportation to reach an addiction treatment clinic regularly
You have co-occurring anxiety, depression, or PTSD alongside your opioid use
You drink more than you intend to, feel unable to stop, or have tried to cut back on alcohol multiple times without success
Your alcohol use is affecting your relationships, job, health, or daily functioning — and you want medication support to help you reduce or stop drinking
If 2 or more apply to you, it's worth a conversation.

Real experiences from Icon Medicine patients. Their words, not ours.
I called on a Tuesday morning not sure what to expect. By that afternoon I had my Suboxone prescription and felt like I could breathe again for the first time in two years. The provider was kind, not judgmental at all.

Maryland patient · MAT / Buprenorphine
I live in rural Virginia and there are no MAT clinics within 60 miles of me. Telehealth with Icon Medicine changed everything. Monthly check-ins, my prescription delivered to my local pharmacy. It just works.

Virginia patient · MAT Telehealth
Three years sober. I was skeptical of 'telehealth MAT' but it's exactly the same care I'd get in person — better, actually, because I didn't have to sit in a waiting room feeling ashamed.
